Mike O’Brien is a writer, actor, and comedian you should know.
Mike was hired as a writer on Saturday Night Live in 2009. After writing for the show for a few seasons, he also joined the cast as a featured player. He has directed several memorable sketches and short films for SNL under the title “A Mike O’Brien Picture.” His work often plays with storytelling tropes, subverting form and emotion with silly choices and absurdist conceits.
You may have also seen his digital series 7 Minutes in Heaven with Mike O’Brien. In the show, Mike interviews celebrities in a clothes-filled closet and ends by awkwardly trying to kiss them. Past guests include Jeff Goldblum, Tina Fey, Tracy Morgan, and Kristen Wiig.
He created the NBC sitcom A.P. Bio starring Glenn Howerton and Patton Oswalt. Howerton plays a Harvard philosophy professor who finds himself hired to teach high school biology after losing his dream job. Instead of teaching, he employs his class of honor students to help him enact revenge on his job-stealing nemesis.
In 2019, after 2 seasons, the show was cancelled but an intense fan outcry convinced the network to make the unusual move to pick it up again for a third season. It will premiere on NBC’s new streaming service Peacock.
Mike also co-wrote the upcoming Lynn Shelton film Sword of Trust starring Marc Maron, Michaela Watkins, and Jillian Bell. Can’t wait to check it out!
